Work
Quote: "Go on out with the grain teams after dinner. They're pickin' up barley at the threshing machine."
Importance: This quote takes place when George and Lennie first arrive to the ranch, and they start to work. Through out the novel all the characters work on the ranch or talk about moving on to another ranch to work. Even when George talks about the farm him, Lennie, and Candy would get they would be working.
Friendship
Quote: "An' I got you. We got each other, that's what, that gives a hoot in hell about us"
Importance: From the very beginning George and Lennie are together. George is always looking out for Lennie when he makes a mistake or people get mad at him which is what a friend does.
Betrayal
Quote: "I ought to of shot that dog myself, George. I shouldn't ought to of let no stranger shoot my dog."
Importance: There are many different cases of betrayal in the novel. Candy Betrayed his dog by letting Carlson kill him. Carlson killed the dog for the wrong reasons, verses if Candy had killed the dog it would have been through kindness.
